Practical Advice

Dock Walking Done Right

Walking the docks is still one of the most effective ways to land your first position. We teach you to approach yachts professionally and follow up without being pushy.

  • Dress smart-casual and carry a folder with printed CVs
  • Research the marina layout and yacht schedules in advance
  • Be polite to dock staff — they are gatekeepers and allies
  • Approach between 08:00 and 10:00 when crew are active on deck
  • Have a short, confident introduction ready
  • Follow up with a polite message if you drop off a CV
